Eastern Phoebe (EAPH)

The Eastern Phoebe is among the absolute worst birds to have escape from a cage. Phoebes are long-distance fliers, which means that even juveniles have the energy to run circles around you for hours if they feel like it. They love to escape too, I think it's kind of a form of enrichment for them to figure out how to maneuver around you and go have fun for a little bit. The only way to catch them is to keep them from landing as much as possible until they eventually wear themselves out and pray you'll eventually beat their reflexes. It's often very difficult to make sure they're getting fed properly, as sometimes they're hard to catch for force feeding even inside of their cage. One of the worst things to have on your shift is a cageful of underweight Phoebes that won't beg, you just kind of have to accept you're going to spend at least twenty minutes trying to catch them every round. They're lucky they're cute.
